Summary0011516: Dwarf Squad Teleported Through Wall
DescriptionI have large a necromancer invasion that occurred on my eastern boarder. The invasion moved toward my fortress and I stationed my squad inside the fort perimeter.

Unfortunately I accidentally overwrote the save right before the invasion while testing, but it doesn't matter because each time I reran the save the invasion occurred at a different edge with different units (notably, only a couple units on each retry) and each time they made it to my front entrance.

Also worth noting I have an undead dwarf citizen that I stationed inside the perimeter to provide undead backup. I also checked and there are no remains lying around to be reanimated.

Next thing I know a handful of my dwarves are on the other side of the wall being ripped to shreads. I've uploaded my file of the original raid in mid progress which shows the grouping around the center of my fort wall.

I saw a previous bug for this marked as resolved so I was not able to comment on it

EDIT: I have a necromancer dwarf citizen. Initially I said undead but this one raises the dead

I just watched 3 archers (no climbing skills) climb over a wall to attack a wild animal. I assume this is what happened in my OP. The walls are made out of blocks. After some research it seems climbing was changed significantly in 0.4X so I guess this should be closed.

For those of you who stumble across the same problem, the solution seems to be to build floor overhangs on your walls to prevent all climbing.

Okay, something funky is going on.

I have another fortress and am in the middle of a goblin siege, w/ Trolls. I built overhangs so climbing should not be possible, yet a group of trolls have found there way onto the ramparts/walkway of my wall. This walkway also contains its own wall/fortification.

So the trolls climbed up 2 Z levels with an overhang (a depth of 2)

Having looked at the save file - your dwarves are just climbing. All dwarves can climb, regardless of climbing skill - climbing skill just lets them do it faster and grab onto things more reliably if they jump and grab a wall/tree branch.

I suggest you check out the dwarf fortress wiki page on climbing. There's a lot of useful info there.

I did, and the enemies are definitely climbing a floor overhang, which is supposed to prevent scaling a wall. Ignore my first file.

What's also annoying is archers will climb over the fortifications I built (these do not have floor overhands, I hope they would be smarter.

Here is a file of my current fortress, with trolls on my ramparts (one is even in midair, cant tell if it's holding on to the floor overhand or if it jumped)

The troll's jumping from the nearby tree. In the combat log you can see the messages about a troll jumping out of the troll's flight path. This causes her to fall short and land on the ground to try again, repeatedly.

Hmm, well that would mean the trolls jumped 25 feet (3 diagonals) from the tree to my ramparts. If you step through the action you'll get a sense of Trolls path.

According to the wiki (in adventure mode), jumping is limited to 2 squares unless you sprint or run and have the space to get up to speed.

This just makes me wonder exactly how far can a troll jump?

Play one in adventurer and find out? 3 squares is easily doable for an average vanilla running adventurer. As is "2 squares- cling to square in front - climb up".
