Summary | 0010117: Dwarves don't use bars and ores |
Description | The main problem:
I have different metal bars (copper, iron, silver, gold) that I want to use in a forge. The metalsmith doesn't always detect the bars, though sometimes he does. (He gives the error: cancels job, needs n bars).
I've tried: stocking them in a stockpile (this does seem to make a difference, though after a while he stops 'seeing' the bars), removing the stockpile, giving to the forge, deconstructing/rebuilding the forge, allowing/disallowing bins...
The problem (I guess it's the same) also shows up when I want to cut native gold: I've got gold nuggets (non-stockpiled) that the gemcutter |
Steps To Reproduce | Never had this happen before, I've got no idea what I did differently. |

The bug tracker is not a support forum, but should be used for things that are most likely bugs, rather than probably some kind of user error. Gameplay questions are better asked in the forums (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=11.0 [^]).
Using bins in stockpiles is a sure way of asking for trouble. Whenever a bin containing an item tasked for use in a workshop is tasked by a dorf to put something into it, the workshop is no longer able to access the item scheduled, and the order is cancelled: it doesn't matter if there are other items available elsewhere, as the tasked one can't be reached. Removing bins from the bar stockpile will probably solve the issue (and you'd need a larger stockpile, or use quantum stockpiling). |

PatrikLundell is correct; the forums are a more appropriate venue for gameplay assistance.
However, ore is never stored in bins so the bin-blocking-bug cannot be the culprit there. Check if you've enabled "workshop restrictions" on a burrow. |

You accidentally enabled workshop restrictions on "Burrow 1", which prevents your forge from using most of your stockpiled bars. |
