Summary | 0010307: Will not Quit with Command Q or from menu! Must Force Quit to quit the game. |
Description | I have just started working with Dwarf Fortress .43.04 on my 2017 iMac with 5K monitor, SSD drive and running High Sierra 13.1, 16 GIGS of RAM and Radeon Pro 575 4 GB RAM video card.
Unfortunately, I am having problems. The app will not quit unless I Force Quit it. It ignores both Command Q and Quit from the app's menu. The Escape and Enter keys work fine. But the app ignores all mouse clicks. I can get the game to load and it will build worlds to play in but that’s it. I cannot interact with the game at all.
I deleted the app and reinstalled it to no avail. I even tried to play in Safe Mode and that did not help either. I really want to get into this game! I hope that you can offer some advise! |
Steps To Reproduce | It happens every time I try to play. |
Additional Information | 2017 iMac with 5K monitor, SSD drive and running High Sierra 13.1, 16 GIGS of RAM and Radeon Pro 575 4 GB RAM video card. |

I am not a mac user, but I believe DF itself works the same on all platforms.
The exit menu in DF doesn't have any "Q" or "force exit" commands, so are you referring to some OS superstructure that you expect somehow should be linked to the game's functions (if it's any consolation, the "close window" button on a windowed DF under Windows does not do anything either)?
The exit menu in DF (invoked with <ESC>, presents a list of commands:
Return to Game
Save Game
Export Local Image
Music and Sound
Abort Game
These commands are invoked by traversing the menu with the arrow keys followed by <RETURN> on the desired command (some of them may be greyed out when not applicable).
DF is essentially keyboard driven and has a very limited mouse support, and mouse selection of menu items is not supported.
The DF forum http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=7.0 [^] is a much better place for advice on how to interact with and play the game than the bug tracker.
Edit: The menu described above is actually one step down in the program. The very top menu contains:
Continue Playing
Start Playing
Create New World!
Design New World with Advanced Parameters
Object Testing Arena
About DF
Quit
but the interaction principles remain the same, and it seems you have managed to invoke the Create New World! element.

Thanks for the info. The Quit. Command is always grayed out, and cannot be accessed. I will report this to the other group that you recommended. |
