0011914: Dumping worn quiver/backpack items leads to unable to equip another ("missing specific item")
It seems the original choice of item they selected for pick up is remembered and is not reset when that item is dumped, so they will ignore the plentiful existing replacements. Examining their equipment status in Dwarf Therapist shows that they are still missing that specific originally worn item (screenshot: https://i.ibb.co/kmV0Mzk/scr01.png [^]). The item might be lying somewhere forbidden or it may even be gone from the map via trade caravan.
Dump quiver / backpack / waterskin(?) that is worn by dwarf in one of the squads.

I dumped the lower quality equipment on two squads to outfit them with new and shiny higher quality ones. This led to this issue on a bunch of them. Wasn't one or two, but, from the look of it, every one which dumped or something close to that. From that and a few further experiments it looks like an "always happens" thing.
90% sure it was the same story with waterskins a bit earlier, just currently focusing on the quivers and backpacks.

I am currently experimenting with this DFHack script I've put together: fixequip.lua - https://pastebin.com/hTi4DwaV [^]
It changes how things look in Dwarf Therapist, and dwarves finally start looking for new items after doing this. Might not be 100% clean and correct at this point, but at least it must be in the right direction.
