0001665: Undead demons fighting with normal demons in the underworld
I was exploring map features with a throwaway fortress when I broke into the underworld. The demons were generated in mid-air as always, but on the slade floor beneath them were several undead Marmot Monsters (haunted mountain).

Instead of pathing out of the underworld to kill my miner, they attacked the undead Marmot Monsters. The Marmots tore the demons apart except for a couple of species and the fight resulted in a neverending stalemate.

I don't know if it's a bug, but this doesn't seem like an intended feature.
Created a fortress on a haunted mountain and broke into the demons underworld.

Were they actually called "Marmot Monster"? If so, they were demons, not just undead marmots -- those would be "Zombie Hoary Marmot" or "Skeletal Hoary Marmot."

They were called "Skeletal Marmot Monster" and "Zombie Marmot Monster". They didn't use the demon '&' symbol.

They weren't part of the initial group of demons and they couldn't fly, but if they are some kind of demons that are supposed to spawn there it still seems odd that the demon hoard would be aggressive to them. (and be killed spectacularly, though that has more to do with the unbalanced combat/material system)

I've seen this in reveal at embark. I saw a large number of skeletons in a HFS feature. I also observed a large amount of miasma. I've got both skeletal and zombie creatures present in the HFS feature.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, this could be intended behavior. Maybe it's just not always demons.

Note, I am not referring to "hell". This is a HFS site that is well above the magma sea. I've seen demons in similar locations before, but this time, it's apparently skeletons and zombies.

@DoctorZuber

That is actually something else. I don't know if you've uncovered it or spoiled yourself so I won't say what it is, but that particular feature isn't a bug.

I've gone down into the underworld again and these Marmot Monsters ARE spawnable creatures that live down there. The only issue I have I guess is that they and probably other randomized underworld inhabitants are hostile to demons. This may or may not be intended but it takes a bit of the fun out of it when the demon hoard ignores you to go attack the other creatures down there.

Adding my note. Zombie demons are entering my hell and fighting with living demons. Actually knocking off a few of the demons, too.

In case this is unintended behavior, I have a save uploaded at http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=4701. [^] Might have to wait a while for more zombie demons to wander in.

After I breached the underworld, a couple of Forgotten Beasts spawned down there. I assumed everything was working as intended. Maybe once the underworld is breached, various entities can spawn down there.

Reminder sent to: Bloodbeard, Kon, vasiln

Is this problem still present in 0.34.07+?

Not seeing undead spawn in the underworld in v34.x. Demons will still fight undead, but the fact that they don't appear to be entering from map edges makes it seem like less of a bug and more of an intended feature. Demons themselves appear invulnerable to any of the things that cause reanimation.
