0001678: Zone Placement Crash
When placing zones and using the rectangle method, if you try to back out with ESC before placing the zone Dwarf Fortress will crash.
1) Start up dwarf mode!
2) Press 'i' to open zone placement.
3) Press 'e' to switch to rectangle mode.
4) Press 'enter' to start placement selection.
5) Press 'ESC' to attempt to back out of placement
6) Crash
Fresh 31.03 install, no mods.

You're sure it's rectangle mode? 0001119 and 0001461 mention this happening with flow and floor flow only.

I can confirm this. I signed up to Mantis Tracker specifically to report this bug and those precise reproduction steps.

Having said that, I have found a few times when it has not crashed this way, but I've managed to consistently crash DF on a fresh map using this method.

OK, I thought I had this problem too as the steps on the interface are i (zones), e (rectangle), enter (place), esc (cancel) -> crash, but the 'rectangle' part is a nuance of the interface, and you are actually moving into flow mode which is where the crash occurs. It also occurs with floor flow mode. I shall add a note to the flow mode crash issue.
