I believe mansonry does not cover the bulding of objects, thats Architecture, which dosnt have a skill growth pattern.
No change required.

Architecture covers bulding objects that need an architect (bridges and furnaces for example). Building stone walls used to give experience in mason skill. I think my masons had no problem with it in a fortress I played in 0.31.03, possibly requires some specific circumstances.

Nope, I don't think it's ever worked that way.

I built a wall as a way of testing this in 40d13. The wall was aprox 250 tiles wide built with 5 dwarves while two dwarves minded to provide stone. This took 1 and a half seaons to complete. No skillups of any kind where recorded outside of mining and coversational skills. I checked each individuals skills.

Architecture and building of buildings does not contribute to masonry skillups.

@Cryten: Yep, otherwise you would end up with most of your dwarves being masons from just building your megaproject.

Thanks for testing that, Cryten.

If it is intentional, it's a very bad descision. Building a wall isn't just stacking rocks on top of each other, bricklaying is a skill, and with practise you get better at it, and since it's added to masonry, you should get skill increases in that.

I agree with king doom. Megaprojects should be rare cases, and not the norm to which you compare the entire game. So balancing it out for that is kind of ridiculous (plus that argument falls flat when miners DO gain skill increases from carving out that megaproject :))

I got one mason to build certain objects while most of my masons are tied up in building constructions. So it's ridiculous that they will never gain any skill in it (Another solution is to make carving rock objects a seperate skill (sculptor or something).

Building constructions is now an unskilled labor separate from the mason skill.
