0005349: Body transformation descriptions crash the game
DwarfCloakedDwarf and I were testing a druid mod, where a new creature class called Druids could shapeshift into creatures for a while. We started off with cougars, which worked after some trial and error -- may be related to this.

We later created a new type of cougars, so they could be more badass than normal cougars. The shapeshift works wonderfully, as well as mauling foes to death. However, when we go to the description, there's about a 60% chance that the game will crash. It seems to be some property of the creature itself, since if it works once, it seems to always work.

Start Object Testing arena

Make a Druid human, elf, or dwarf (either gender, crashes were mostly on human females)

Shapeshift to cougar

View your own description, or crash. If it works properly, return to step 3.

i'm thinking it may be due to the new type of cougar unless your shape-shifting to the older normal one.

and i'm not sure this really counts as a game bug definitely not "Adventure Mode -- General" as its a mod, most of the time the bugs in mods are on the modder's side not the game's.

After a bit testing I have noticed following two things:

- The crash occurs when the transformation is from one creature to another, completely different creature.

- If the transformation is done inside the same race, from caste to another, everything works fine.

It occurred on both types of cougars. Sometimes it worked just fine, other times it would crash.

UPDATE: Tried in .04. Still occurs-- not related to TrueType bug.

It may be a good idea to upload savegame ready for testing.

A save demonstrating the bug. Attempt to view the description of "ezum kulettirist, legionnaire of zalkor."

This is caused by different tissue modifiers, even if the modifiers haven't been used before. For example, if a creature has red hair and a transformation turns that hair green, then the game will crash upon attempting to view the description. This even happens with descriptors that haven't otherwise been used; if the creature simply has curly and greasy hair, trying to change the color of the hair, even if the color has no modifier, will still crash the game. Pretty much any change in previously-existing tissue or body modifiers will cause this, so care has to be taken to an extreme.

Are there any good workarounds for this bug? I like the idea of shapeshifters, but not the idea of crashes. Obviously not viewing a description is one workaround, but also not one I particularly like.

Do werewolves crash when they grow fur and tails and are looked at?
