0005357: Took the necromancy teaching slab from the tower, now game crashes on travel/wait/sleep/save/starvation/retirement.
Raided a necro tower, cleared the first floor of about 30 zombies and 3-4 necromancers. Proceded to clear the second and last floor of another about 30 zombies & 3-4 necros.

When i was (finaly) done with that, looted all the books (mostly self bio junk) and the necromancy teaching slab "Taremvesh".

Exited the tower to make a camp fire & burn the useless books; didnt work. Walked a bit north, to try and do it off site by droping some other books near a flaming tree; nothing. Returned back to the tower to find it repopulated with zombies (think those were not the original ones, since their remains were still all around the tower), so i reanimated what i could find and cleared the tower for the second time (no necros this time).

I noticed the books i left in the campfire are gone, but found them all in a pile on the second floor + the slab "Taremvesh" (a clone, since i still had the one i 1st picked up in my hands). I tryed to pick up the slab, but then the 1st one dissapeared from my hands and i had the 2nd one in my backpack. Also a book i took on my 1st visit and used to kill a zombie with (it gained the kill list) was still in my backpack.

That gave me an idea to use the slab to kill things, so it would become ever conected with my char.
That i did for a while (no fast travel yet, only local wild life suffered). At this point i activated the travel mode, went some distance from the tower, exited travel mode to cross a river, traveled some more till i got ambushed by bandits on the nearby road. Killed 3 of them with the slab-to-the-head method, including the named leader.

This is when the crashes beggan, after i saved once, travel mode crashed the game, giving into starvation crashed the game, so did saving, entering the nearby town and retiring AND getting near the tower (possibly since the slab might have reapered there). I tryed all of these again after dropping the slab in the wilderness.

Sorry for the long read, any number of my actions could have caused the bug, so i thought it would be best to write it all.
My suspects:
1) Slab cloning back at the tower, messing up the legends. (site not saving properly??)
2) Me killing a named person with it.
3) Zombifing that person afterwards.
4) Me taking the slab in the 1st place.

My moneys on N*1.

Reminder sent to: Lightning4

Could I call on your expertise again regarding save corruption? This save does not appear to have any feature corruption, but there are a couple art_image and a ton of unit files modified at the same time as the region snapshots. Does that indicate corruption too?

Here is an example of what is probably the same... i was personally associating it with the 'cleanup' being overwhelmed by all the undead bodies on trying to leave the site BUT... the crash is replicable, and there is very little custom content in this game (a new metal and a new gemstone that i've been using for many many DF versions prior to this problem.)

of note... i HAD books in my inventory after leaving the tower.. but can't find them to drop now (was hoping that at least might be able to continue my game... but alas, no.)

Nah, this doesn't appear to be the same kind of corruption.
Worldgen corruption only really stemmed from feature files. Art_image and unit files are normal, and a fair bit of them come with a newly generated world.

I had something similar happen to me in 40.13. When I took the slab and all of the secret-containing books from a tower, the slab and books ceased to exist when I left the area. They are no longer in my inventory or in the tower, and they show up as glitchy "unknown artifact" entries under Legends. Step by step, what I did was:

* retired my fortress Greenwall
* created a new adventurer, Mestthos Boltsgrip, based out of Greenwall
* manually walked (no fast traveling) to the necromancer tower Ravengilds
* killed off the inhabitants (aided by the zombies slaughtering their masters as soon as I showed up, per bug 6663)
* collected the borax slab Iquiocebisan and all of the books (exploiting bug 2562 to get all of them into a single backpack)
* read each non-secret book and left them in a pile in the tower, retaining the secret books and slab without reading them
* took one of the non-secret books outside and attempted to burn it
* ran into some goblin civilians in the immediate area
* killed a named goblin with the slab, then chased another away from the tower
* when I caught up with the goblin, the slab and books were missing from my inventory
* returning to the tower, duplicates of the non-secret books were in their original spots (bug 5469)...the slab and secret books were not duplicated

To boot, the inhabitants of the tower, The Charms of Locking, are friendly toward me even though most of them are goblins, I'm a dwarf, and I've been murdering them left and right while surrounded by witnesses. They keep telling me that they're at war with Greenwall -- my adventurer is a member of Greenwall's ruling group, The Volcano-Dweller. I saw the same thing in fortress mode; my dwarves completely ignored necromancers standing just a few tiles away.

This archive contains two saves, one prior to starting the adventure, and the other a few hours after losing the slab/books:
