Summary | 0005921: Biting dwarves in minecarts infinitely increases combat range |
Description | A creature biting a dwarf in a moving minecart can "stretch" its teeth, enabling melee combat over seemingly potentially infinite distance and pulling the dwarf out of the minecart only when the minecart comes to a stop. |
Steps To Reproduce | I regrettably don't have the Fortress mode save (initial occurrence was too far from last save to have accurate reproducibility), but it can be reproduced in Arena mode with 100% accuracy (provided the second creature manages to land a bite).
1. Place a dwarf with a minecart in its inventory. Assume control of the dwarf and ride the minecart in an unblocked direction. Continue using (u -> ride) until the minecart has picked up speed.
2. Return to the arena and place a second creature. e.g. a dwarf, next to the minecart. Assume control of this creature and bite the minecart rider, preferably somewhere that can't be severed through biting.
3. Return to arena mode. Assuming your second creature managed to bite the dwarf and latch on, the dwarf will show the purple "wrestling" indicator, yet be far away from the creature 0000002. If you unpause, then when (and only when) the minecart comes to a stop, the dwarf will be teleported/pulled back to creature 0000002. No matter how violent the halt of the minecart - even if it hits a wall with great force - the dwarf will take no damage other than bite damage. |

One of our IRC regulars in the dfhack channel has reported that weapons that become imbedded in a victim who is in the minecart remain in the hand of the attacker (but also imbedded in the victim) even as the minecart moves away. The reporter in this case did not indicate whether he observed the teleport behavior that Talvieno reports in his report, however. Probably a related phenomenon. |

Fixed the wrestle and shared item problems. Also tried to make guts stream behind the cart properly, but that might not always be possible. |
