0007267: Elves drop feather tree egg yolk in trade depot while unloading
I don't know how this happened, but I checked my trade depot since elf traders arrived and noticed four stacks of 5 "feather tree egg yolk" in my trade depot, marked with [TRADING] in 'g' of the depot.

Save: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8960 [^]
This save crashed sometime later in the season, but I didn't think to note down the error code it gave when it crashed. The first time through, I didn't notice any strange items in the trade depot. The only things I've previously put there myself have been prepared meals.

This is for 0.40.03. I don't know how I missed putting that in there.

Feather trees produce eggs like apple trees produce apples.

...so they do. Huh. But there's still the question of how this ended up in my trade depot.

Could the elves have brought them?

No, and they're stuck in my trade depot when I remove them from trading and try to get dwarves to bring them back. They're listed under liquids in the stocks.

What makes you think the elves couldn't have brought them?

Do you have feather trees on your map?

I do. The area immediately around the trade depot is clear of trees, though.

Because they were marked as something -I- was offering to -them-.

This is just the second year, so the only previous traders were dwarves, and I don't recall them bringing anything like that.

Given the vast number of non-bug ways that the eggs could have gotten there, there's not much to go on, unless you can narrow it down to obviously weird behavior.

Confirming that this happens.
I had feather tree yolk "spawn" in a freshly build depot.
I'm not sure if it was there instantly after the depot was completed or if someone brought it there, but it certainly wasn't traders who brought it.

I've also seen feathertree egg yolk [5] as part of my offer when trading with elves.

It's possible that the traders brought them but instantly lost their rights to them. I've seen this happen with molten cheese (embarking in very hot biomes): all cheese would arrive molten. The traders would unload it, but it'd enter the trade screen as _my_ goods, probably because it changed state (solid->molten->re-solidified into 1☼ value cheese globs) after entering the map, voiding the traders' rights. If imported feathertree eggs are unstable and instantly disassemble to yolk, you could see the same instant change of ownership.

I could provide a 0.34.11 save with the molten cheese issue.

The elves brought feather tree egg yolk [5] with them and they showed up on my side of the trade screen.

Happened again in 0.40.07. The yolks seemed to appeared when the elven caravan unloaded their goods. There weren't any when I was trading with the dwarven caravan.

They now have a value though, so I traded them back to the elves...

This is still happening in 0.43.04 experimental Windows 64 bit, and happened in 0.42.05 as well (frequently->every time). The yolk doesn't seem to go away if "traded". I don't know if it was there before the elven caravan (the first one to arrive, on account on playing a dead civ).
It can be noted that my embark had feather trees on it before I cut them down, but none of the trees were anywhere near my trade depot (which isn't built from feather tree wood either). I can upload the save of the state it happens to be in (the yolk won't go away) and/or the embark copy of the save if desired. I could also "fast play" from the embark save-> elven caravan to check for yolk before/after, if desired.

I can confirm this still occurs with 0.44.02. I do not have feather trees on my map at all and the elves pooped these here.

Windows x64 version. I can provide a save if needed.

Still happens in 0.44.07. Deconstruction of the depot creates a pool of feather tree egg yolk on the ground.

Unable to provide a relevant save at the moment but anecdotally, a broken feather tree egg landed on my trading depot in the 44.07 version and was listed within my goods active in the trade screen as a non value contributed imported object and i was unable to trade it back to them (possibly because [ANIMAL_KILL] on yoke or maybe i didn't try) since it broke while the elves were probably unloading their goods. To corroborate with other stories here.

To recreate this i would think would be rare, but require a few caravan visits by elves native to good forest biomes where feather trees can be found.

Yolk itself materially (only yolk, no whites though they are largely identical) is a [EDIBLE_COOKED] non stockpile object and would need to be handled with jugs if it did actually function like the glob material it resembles and normally rots, but since this was a outside trading depot it did not. Perhaps a function to break open eggs for yolk and barrel it up instead of eating hard material eggs whole in finished meals like Gaston could be beneficial, no clean job im aware of was queued up for it either.

In terms of foodstuffs that can't be picked up and put back into a pile if they are incomplete like honey & broadly eggyoke 0010302 may apply as a relevant relation.

Still happens in 0.47.05. Can provide save if needed
