0007807: Human caravans arrive, dump goods, then immediately leave
This is the first time I've seen this in .40, but also my first long-term fort in .40.05. The past few years, the human caravan will show up, the first traders will unpack, then as soon as the first wagon arrives in the trade depot, the individual traders will dump a bunch of stuff into the depot and leave. The "There are no merchants trading right now" message appears in the Trade Depot action screen. Additionally, dwarves start to grab stuff from the traders and store in stockpiles. In this particular save, the traders have stopped entirely in my outside courtyard while my dwarves strip them of their goods.

This didn't happen until *after* I moved my original Trade Depot to underground area. Since then, it has happened every year. I have no idea if it's related. I am going to move the Depot back to outside and see if it continues to happen next year.

Neither Elven nor Dwarven caravans are affected.

Wait until human caravan arrives to trade. When wagons arrive, the initial traders leave and are no longer trading.

I had this happen as well - both with a human and dwarven caravan, and my depot is still in the original place above ground. They arrive at the depot and then immediately leave, dumping goods along the way. They aren't dumping them at the depot, and the goods are forbidden.

This is in 40.06

I do have a were-creature corpse laying near the depot that no one will move - perhaps they get scared? I also currently have a forgotten beast locked away and walled up in the fortress - perhaps it is related to that?

dglidden, do you have any corpses near your depot?
I can confirm I also had a caravan turn around and leave the depot immediately when there was a werecavy corpse near the depot; I reported this as 0007741 prior to considering the corpse as a possible cause.
It looks like that issue and this one may be duplicates of 0007185.

Were they possibly horrified by corpses?

I downloaded the supplied save file and took a look. Yes, there is a refuse stockpile with a couple of elf corpses right along the caravan's route to the depot, with some of the merchants overwhelmed by horror in the vicinity of the stockpiles.

Suggestion: There should be a child of 0007161 specifically regarding how easily horrified everyone is by corpses. 0007185 and 0007595 are more about how merchants behave when they're horrified, but the underlying issue is that merchants are getting so horrified in the first place. Anyone who routinely travels around a DF world should be pretty hardened to seeing corpses.

Thanks for investigating, Kanddak. I reopened 0007435 to fill that role.
