0008233: Odd accusation of murder
On a world generated with 40.11 i am a hearthperson for a lord and i think something break in relationships as what happened is not making sense .

The detailled report of what happened :

While he told me to enjoy peace when asked about hearthperson duty, he then told me about nearby hamlet apparently owned by bandits and harrassing us.

So after recruiting 2 companions and equipping myself, i went to investigated.

While stealth moving in the hamlet, i found a human named Osa Dyehigh, one of my companion shot at him as soon as he was in range , so i attacked him and killed that human.
That human was wearing a mask, so i assume it was a bandit.

Then while moving through the hamlet, i heard noise from a house (all the ones i visited so far were empty), i went there and to my surprise saw a kobold.
I wasn't stealth moving, the kobold immediately tried to run away, i smashed the monster to death.
The creature name was Troboboshrurbin

I traveled on world map then, and noticed a * , i went to investigate stealthly but it was night and i didn't saw the creature, but one of my companion apparently did, and ran toward him.
A few turns later, the fight sounds ended and my companion was struck down just as i finally found the enemy, a human named An Strappinganvils that had a mask
I managed to kill that bandit.

The next day after sleeping, along my last party member we found another " * " near a river, i went there and found while stealthly an axeman that had a mask.
Stealth i managed to move in and get the 1st strike, then battle happened, lucky for me i wasn't hit and hammered to death the enemy, a human named Kina Headwalks , that was wearing a mask.

Finally, i went to the castle of another very nearby hamlet and found that it had no lords but instead there was a boss , i knew then i had found the bandit main hideout.
As i wasn't stealth, he started to run away, but my hammer was good enough to kill that bandit boss before he could outrun me.
He was wearing a mask.

Then i went back to my castle to report my feats and apparently the end of the bandit threat.
We were ambushed by 3 lions that i killed helped by my ally.

After reaching my castle bragging and reporting what happened, i decided to talk to my law giver only for him to spit on me and calling me a murderer.

I made the save uploaded there so you can see the dialogue in the announcement.

I can't make any sense of that so it's very likely a bug somewhere.
My character kill list is :
- 4 masked bandits killed, one of them was even a boss and one of them killed one of my companion that was a guard in the same castle as me
- 1 kobold monster killed
- 3 lions killed

forgot to mention, the bandit boss name was Oku Presentcarnal

(is there a way to edit my report so i can fix some nasty orthograph faults, i can only find an edit button for the additional notes ? )

One of the mods can fix it.

I got a similar reaction when I killed a bandit leader under a keep and reported it to those in the keep itself. It happened a couple of times, though one time MIGHT have been because the person was a relative.

Basically, it's just really confusing as far as the reactions.

I checked on Legends Viewer and saw something that may be interesting.

The kobold was a member of 1 entity "Tromus" that is a kobold entity
The 4 bandits are members of 1 entity "The Tangled Leagues" (must be the bandit entity but Legend Viewers does not make the precision, but this "human group" is related to no civilisation)

The boss of those bandit is members of 2 entities "The Tangled Leagues" and "The Slick Kingdom"

And according to Legend Viewer "The Slick Kingdom" is a human civilisation.
So basically the bandit boss is member of both a human group (bandits) that is not related to the regular human civilisation he's too a member of.

I checked the law giver (named Gasom Faithfulanguish ) and he is a member of "The Confining Realm" same as my character (that is another human civilisation, so not related to The Slick Kingdom)

So none of the bandits or the kobolds are part of the same civilisation or related entities to the one of my law giver (or me) , there's certainly some bug in there (especially as the bandits were supposed to be harrassing my castle according to the lord)

I think the criminal-town quests could be entirely bugged. My guess is, that the quest-giver only means that the town-dungeon-gang are the criminals, but the game does not differentiate between the dungeon and the town itself.

After getting more very similar issues regarding bandits, i think the other bug i reported is related :

As it is probably not "only" the bandit quest that is bugged, but the whole bandit groups relationships with other entities that is very broken, as bandits aren't hostile to anyone (unless you attack them) and will be even friendly to hearthpersons (in the case i reported, i was hearthperson and my lord asked me to get rid of the bandits harrassing us) that are tasked to destroy them.

And only if you manage to get those bandits to accept to join you they will finally get correctly behaving like bandits and fight you and your companions

Just yesterday I finished off a human that a local hearthperson was shooting at, and then invited him to my party.

He proceeded to follow me around, calling me a murderer and spitting on me.

Yeah, for the criminal quests, I can NEVER find the relevant criminals and the only time I actually found one was through a look in legendsviewer, which only shows leaders, not members.

Guess where I found the leader, in a random tavern.

This isn't just for bandits, but beasts as well. People in the same breath will accuse me of murdering the shadow monster while also praising my killing of the shadow monster. Even the bronze colossus I killed got me tagged as a "rumored killer" (and a legendary hero). It's very bizarre.

Killer isn't bad, murderer is. I had a character who had nearly 2000 kills and was known as a legendary hero AND legendary killer back in 40.24.
