0008923: Migrants have emotions from witnessing events at the fortress that happened before they arrived
I've noticed in my most recent game that many (thought not all) migrants to my fort tend to arrive with emotions pertaining to events that occurred at the fort before they showed up. Particularly, large quantities of arriving dwarves claim to have been horrified by witnessing the death of a jumping spider man, who died (mysteriously, possibly by jumping?) some time before their arrival. Many also claim to have felt nothing witnessing the deaths of some dogs and alpacas even further in the past.
I haven't tried to reproduce this, so I can't say for sure, but I would guess:

1) start a fort
2) allow something to be murdered by wildlife, or by a cave-in or something
3) check thoughts of incoming dwarves in later migration waves.
In my case, the dogs and alpacas were killed by a were-something early in the life of the fort. Later a jumping spider man was found dead, the report seems to suggest that he fell and... popped. I like to think he tried to jump too high. This is to say that the deaths were not all at the same time or from the same cause. I have no idea what causes some migrants to think they saw this all happen, while other migrants make no mention of it.

Here is a save of the game I reference in the description:

http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=10781 [^]

To see the problem, check the reports screen and see that a jumping spider man was pulverized in 458, and some alpacas and dogs have reports from 457, when they died. Now open the unit list and check some of the "new arrivals" who arrived in 459. Some, including Etur Oslansesh, Iden Ustuthirid, and Reg Cattenamug claim to have witnessed all of these deaths. Other new arrivals, such as Etur Otungdakost and Solon Asrurast, make no such claims. To be clear, this issue has occured with earlier migrant waves as well, but that would be a bit more difficult to isolate and demonstrate.

Do the migrants obtain these thoughts after going within sight range of the refuse stockpile storing the remains of these creatures?

If so, I believe this is normal behavior.

The "horrified at seeing X die"/"felt nothing at seeing X die" behavior is 0007435. If you have evidence of other past events not seen by dwarves affecting them, please reopen this report or pm a manager on the forums.
