0009083: Dwarves no longer grieve for friends and family
In the latest version I've noticed that the dwarves freak out over seeing the knocked out teeth of trolls but don't care in the least if a child or friend dies. I never get the "felt grief" thought any more. This seems new to this release. I haven't even seen any thoughts about suffering the decay of a friend or relative since updating to 40.24. They will however be repeatedly "horrified" by the sight of loose body parts (i.e. teeth) lying around.
Start a game in fortress mode and wait for someone's child to die then check their thoughts; they'll be horrified by the refuse pile but won't even notice the loss of a family member.

Reminder sent to: De

Can you post a save (whole region folder) demonstrating the problem to the DFFD ( http://dffd.bay12games.com/index.php [^] ) and post a link to it here?

I would love to but I've never been able to get a DFFD account. I've registered, on two different e-mails and never gotten the activation email, not in my junk mail, not in promotions, nothing. And there's no way I can find to get an e-mail resent. I suppose I could create a third account and try again but I don't know why it'd be any different from my first two attempts.

You could try contacting Janus on the forums and/or uploading your save somewhere else in the meantime (make sure it's a reliable host that won't delete your file, though - that's one of the reasons we recommend DFFD).

Happy to announce that in 43.05 I have grieving dwarves. Husband of a brave soldier who blocked a minotaur's foot with her neck thus saving the fortress. He cancelled his mining due to grieving and his thoughts correctly contain a yellow grief thought.
