I'm actually not sure whether saves from 0.40.X are supposed to be compatible.

Upload that 0.40.24 save (zipped region folder) to http://dffd.bay12games.com/ [^] so others can have a look, please.

Are you using any third party tools? Was world of this save vanilla one or have you made any changes to its raws?

Soon after embark/just before it crashes seem to be caused by calendar advance (0009129). Please try again with 0.42.02 when it becomes available as that should have 9129 fixed.
