| Description | The menu to select specific weapon / armor piece in the military screen
also offers equipment from visitors.
Assignment does not seem to have an effect (dwarf never gets the assigned equipment).

-build inn/tavern
-wait for visitor with military equipment
-go to military screen - equipment
-for example: assign specific weapon to a dwarf
-in the list are also weapons of visitors selectable

Can confirm in 0.42.04 with world from 0.42.02.
There are 2 bronze crossbows listed in my "z"-"Stocks", one is in trade depot and one in inventory of human crossbowman, recent visitor. I can assign both of them as "specific weapon".
I also noted only the crossbow in trade depot is shown in Stocks list when I switch to detailed view there with TAB. On the other hand, things on merchants show in Stocks too, but in purple and AFAIK can't be used by fort citizens. |

Things that visitors have on them appear as if I own them in my stocks. Like armor, bolts, and weapons. |

I can confirm this happening in 0.44.01 as well, but, the question is, do the dwarves actually equip the items? |

This is in 0.44.02 for me. When I go to stock screen, it lists all the equipment of all the visitors in the fort. So it showed for me lots of iron mail shirts and copper breastplates and I had not made any or bought any from a caravan. It even lets you designate them for melting but they are not retrieved by the dwarves, presumably because they are all owned and being used. |

Dwarves will retrieve and use visitor's weapons if you assign them for dumping, then unforbid them once they reach the dump zone. Just equipped my fledgling military with visitorite this way. Melted their armour claimed their weapons. (44.05)
