0000957: Invading trolls arrive with civilian professions
I had a goblin siege arrive which had a group of trolls.

Some of the trolls are just plain "Troll"s, but I also see:

* Troll Blacksmith
* Troll Craftsman
* Troll Bone Carver
* Troll Fisherman
* Troll Bone Doctor

which seems a little odd. Presumably they are being named based on skills, as goblins are - but why are they getting civilian skills?
Fixed in 0.40.01?, Intentional/Expected?

A save showing this (after the siege arrived) is at http://s3test.randomly.org/df/957/region6-aut-54_civilian-trolls.zip [^]

This is brilliant, I'm being attacked by a Troll Clerk and a Troll Surgeon.

Isn't this a feature?

(Well... perhaps troll shouldn't get some professions, like armorer and woodcuter, but I like that they can be woodcutters and fish dissectors. Adds a bit of flavour and tell you the're not just monsters, they're people too! :))

I would only call it a bug if the troll medic suddenly,
after they had beaten you half dead, would carry you to a hospital zone and treat your wounds

:D

I also got this bug with v0.31.03.
I uploaded a movie of it :

Same thing happens (happened?) with tamed tigermen brought by elf caravans.

I also am noticing that in statues and kill lists they're being shown a bit oddly (I presume the same would go for engravings and figurines, though I haven't seen one show up yet). In kill lists, each one is listed as "the Troll" (which is itself merely verbally awkward in that context, but indicative of something a bit off overall). In a statue made recently, it was as follows:

+gabbro statue+

This is a superior quality gabbro statue.
The item is a superiorly designed image of the troll and "Selena" Pagedpelts the White Jaw of Seals in gabbro by "Flask" Avuzam. Is making a plaintive gesture. "Selena" Pagedpelts the White Jaw of Seals is striking a menacing pose. The artwork relates to the mortal wounding of the troll by the dwarf "Selena" Pagedpelts the White Jaw of Seals with a steel battle axe in Blackspire in the midspring of 1057 during Kok Snos' "The Assault of Rampage."

Really cool statue, but clearly it's hitting something of a hitch with trolls in this regard. (Just in case it comes up in mind, the "Is making a plaintive gesture." part is not a transcribing mistake on my part -- that is indeed how it shows up in-game.)

They don't have any proper names. That happens if you don't give them the CAN_SPEAK token in the raws. The problem is that if you give them the CAN_SPEAK token, then they send caravans to trade with you unless you make them either thieves (like kobolds) or child-snatchers (like goblins). This happened also in 40d.

Kogut: however, invading trolls no longer generate "Is <foo>ing <foo>." events because they all have names as of version 0.31.
