Were you using any third-party utilities, graphics packs, etc.?

I spoke to the child in there and didn't crash. Have you been able to reproduce this?

No third party utilities and graphics packs, pure ASCII.
First child you can see is 'high-eyebrows child', name 'Ilral Abberlate', no crash when speaking to him. You need another one, 'widely-spaced-teeth'
I've updated save file, so now you can see that one nearby.

There was a problem with guide (and possible other) agreements clearing properly. Should work for next time.
