Summary0010528: Dwarves create statues of historical figures using events that the dwarves have no knowledge of
DescriptionProblem observed in masons workshop, metalsmith's forge, and craftdwarves workshop for statues and figurines. Requesting, via the [d]etails menu, that the image be of deity in the historical figures list results in random statue image, not the requested one. Other historical figures seem to work properly. May be related to advanced world gen param "reveal all historical events" being set to no.
Steps To ReproduceGenerate world with history hidden and start fortress mode in vanilla df
Observe which deities are worshipped by dwarves
Order statue be made at mason workshop
In [d]etails, specify image, related to historical figure, and choose a worshipped deity from list
Observe finished statue is not of deity

Check the description of the statue. If it is listed as a statue of [random historical figure] instead of a statue of [deity], it should show that historical figure *interacting* with said deity. See kneaugh's explanation here: 0010498

The statues I have made all depict elves writing manuscripts rather than interacting with the dwarven deity, though kneaugh's work-around works.
Thanks

Were those elves writing the manuscripts to glorify the deity? That can happen during world generation, where a bard will create a work dedicated to a deity that is not their own. Usually, said deity is worshiped in the civilization that founded the site where the bard is currently living,

If not, your hypothesis about "reveal all historical events" may well be correct.

I can find the authors and the sites claimed using the 'specific image' menus, but cannot find the works in those menus or in the civ screen artifact list. Three of the titles follow the form "The Sun Sets on ____" and the others are titled "Delight and the Freckle" and "We See Bottoms", all of which follow forms of similar titles for plays, novels, short stories which "have no particular subject."

You should upload a save of your game to http://dffd.bay12games.com. [^] That way, others (particularly the bug tracker managers) will be able to see the behavior that you have described for themselves.

I have uploaded a .zip of the save on the forum here: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13434. [^] The save should open to a room with the defective items dumped on the floor under a figurine.

From an xml dump of Legends from your save, I determined that "We See Bottoms" was written to glorify Ad. "The Sun Sets on Race" and "The Sun Sets on Trances" were written to glorify Zutthan, another dwarven god that you likely requested historical images of.

It could be considered a bug that dwarves will depict events that relate to the chosen subject in ways the dwarves don't comprehend, or it could be thought of as the god guiding the dwarf's hand in mystical ways to depict an event the dwarf had no earthly knowledge of. In the latter case, it would be nice if the title of the work was adjusted to cite the historical figure, e.g. "statue glorifying Ad" instead of "statue of (random elf)".
