Summary0001318: Dwarf refuses to hunt
DescriptionI made a Dwarf with crossbow training, aswell as adding crossbows during the embarking, along with other things, but he refuses to hunt. I'm not sure way. If it's possible a bug, or something i'm missing.
Additional InformationHe has hunting on, along with the other skills for ambushing, butchering, and tanning hides, and somehow turned out to be called a farmer for some reason.

He needs bolts and a quiver, and you have to assign the ammo to the Hunters squad in [m]ilitary -> Ammo. He also needs butcherable prey (i.e. non-sentient animals). Also, if you used Dwarf Therapist to turn on his hunting labor, that may cause problems.

I have bolts assigned to the hunters, iron crossbows ready to use, at least 8, and so on.

I think i just figured out why they refuse to hunt.

During their time in need of hunting, they gather their equipment, and prepare to kill off all things wild. However, if the original npcs are all dead/runoff the map/hunter runs out of ammo, he's on a permanent invalid in hunting, and continues to refuse to hunt. However, because of that, it will end up with the workaround, if it does work.

The workaround is basically assigning him to a squad, and moving him into a station. After he becomes a military dwarf, remove the station, and he should hunt again. It's worked before, but the workaround seems to randomly work.

There is probably a bug which got lodged into the hunting code, and it prevented hunters from hunting correctly, and always. As for version 28, it was fine. Maybe the new military structure might've made some of the hunting code invalid.

The only huntable animals in the save are the four mountain goats, and they are all across the river and inaccessible. You need to build a bridge or tunnel under. That said, there are issues with ammunition, and I've been fixing those up for 0.31.09.
