Summary0001694: At least one level of miner required to mine (can't dig untrained)
DescriptionOn every occasion I can think of I've had picks sitting around unused--apparently dwarves can't dig if they have zero experience in mining. Can't imagine this being intentional, given that every other labor can be performed untrained. Thanks.

Could have something to do with reclaiming--it's happening again with all dwarves at novice. Who knows.

maybe tried to assign mining with dwarf therapist? There are some bugs with assigning woodcutting and mining using dwarf therapist at the moment.

Never had this happen at all. I can give a random peasant a pick and he'll start digging away happily, albeit slowly until he gets some experience.

Yeah, did you use Dwarf Therapist to enable the mining labor?

I suspect you're suffering from 0000017. If your labor list only has four labor groups, than you're bugged up and will probably have to abandon and start over. Although, mining is one of the labors that doesn't get nuked, so I'm not sure what's going on here.

Reminder sent to: Reprah

Do you have a save that still demonstrates this problem in 31.10? If so, it would be helpful to upload it to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^]

Could this be related to the bug where military weapons were not being unassigned? 001687 The picks could have been claimed by military personnel and therefore weren't really available for miners?
