Summary0002434: Carpenters won't work in Carpenter's Shop because top job is "Make wooden animal trap"
DescriptionAfter running out of wood:
The carpenters will build and dismantle carpentry workshops, but....
The carpenters WILL NOT work in the work shops, assigned tasks stay queued, but the carpenters report "No job" and stand in the meeting area.
Steps To ReproduceBuild a carpentry workshop, queue some tasks, run out of wood. After getting the out of wood report from the shop, get more wood and queue up some more tasks. They should be ignored by the dwarfs.
Additional Information -no carpenters will work in shop
 -carpentry skill is active :P
-activating and deactivating carpentry skill does not fix the problem.
-deactivating all the workshop tasks (clearing them) and putting in new ones does not fix the problem
-deconstructing the workshop and building another does not fix the problem.

My wife is also playing 0.31.08 using a separate download and separate computer,
(windows xp sp2 pro). She built a carpentry shop. she ran out of wood, and then no carpenter would never use a carpentry workshop again.

1. Are the carpenters confined to a burrow?
2. Are the workshops accessible (i.e., are you sure there are no dark green building squares blocking the path to the center)?
3. Is the wood accessible?
4. Can the carpenters perform other jobs?
5. Have you tried enabling carpentry on different dwarves?

1) No burrows exist yet, and it is still the first season of gameplay
2) They are accessible. I tried building them outside and inside.
3) the wood is accessible
4) Carpenters preform other tasks
5) carpentry on different Dwarfs does not fix the problem

!!!!!The problem is actually the 'Make wooden animal trap' !!!!!!!
As soon as you assign it at the top of the queue, it breaks the Carpenter shop.
Try it!
Sorry for my inaccurate bug report, but the problem is certainly the animal trap.

That nabbed me too for a while. Pretty frustrating until I figured it out.

It doesn't "break" the shop. Wooden animal traps (as described on the wiki http://df.magmawiki.com/index.php/DF2010:Animal_trap [^]) are built "by a dwarf with the trapping labor enabled." The game could definitely do a better job of informing you why a job isn't being completed, but that's in Suggestions territory: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?board=5.0 [^]
