Summary0002442: Spouse room assignments behave strangely when spouses have different burrow assignments
DescriptionNormally two Dwarves who are married will both be marked as assigned in the bedroom assignment list if either of them is assigned a bedroom. I think this was still true in earlier versions of 0.31, but I have not played since 0.31.03.

In the current version, assigning a bedroom to the Mayor does not mark the Mayor's spouse as having been assigned a bedroom, although assigning a bedroom to the spouse (with none explicitely assigned to the Mayor) will mark the Mayor as having been assigned a bedroom.

To reiterate:

Previous versions (unknown how far back):

Mayor explicitly assigned bedroom => Spouse implicitly marked as assigned
Spouse explicitly assigned bedroom => Mayor implicitly marked as assigned

Current version:

Mayor explicitly assigned bedroom => Spouse not implicitly marked as assigned
Spouse explicitly assigned bedroom => Mayor implicitly marked as assigned

When I say that I did not try to reproduce it, I mean that I have observed it only in one fortress to date. I have tried removing and replacing the room assignments in that fortress. The fortress was made in this version and the only mods are putting in some gender caste names in some animals, and making horn a shell.

This did not reproduce in a new fortress.

I reproduced it, finally. It happens only when the spouse who has been assigned the bed is assigned a bed in a burrow of which the second spouse is not a member. I must have had a Mayor's burrow in the first example where I saw it, and forgotten to add the Mayor's spouse to the burrow list. Apparently you can assign a bed to someone directly when they cannot reach it due to burrow problems, but not indirectly through the spousal relationship. That is why assigning the bed to the Mayor's spouse also assigned it to the Mayor, even though the Mayor's spouse would never be able to sleep in the bed. The instance I saw today was not a Mayor, but only a new marriage between individuals of different clans. The problem is not one with the Mayoral position, but one of room assignments interacting with burrow assignments.

Thanks for investigating. I updated the summary to reflect your findings -- let me know if you had a better summary in mind.

That summary looks fine. Thanks. :)
