Summary0002474: Crash when calling the squad screen
DescriptionThis is a weird bug because the game crash when calling squad screen only when i do it on lower level of my fort. It seam linked to an half revealed cavern i have on those lower level, but i'm not 100% sure of it. I just opened an entrance to the cavern and closed it with a fortification and did no further exploration of it since my dwarfs are quiet busy now.
In one of those level where is the cavern i made an arena type room closed behind linked doors, built a gobos cage in middle and open it with one or 2 dwarf to give them live exercice. This room is very close to the cavern and in fact is sunrounded by the cave. Pretty much everytime i call the squad screen in one of those lower level with the cave the game crash. The strange part is that i had a huge siege at fort entrance and called the squad screen a lot of time and had no problem at all. I managed to kill 4 waves of gobos and trolls and never carshed. Then the siege ended i go back to "live" training in the arena and boom, crash everytime again. The cave is on 3 or 4 z level, and if i call the squad screen in one of those the game crash. So those seam to be linked in some way.
Sometime the game don't crash at the moment i call the squad screen and i manage to give them an order but it usually end up crashing a bit after, but mainly it crash at the moment i hit "s" key. And the bug seam more linked to the carvern than the arena room, since i tryed to call the squad screen in a level under the room where the cavern is and had the game freezing. I'll try further testing to be sure its linked to that cavern, but the game crashed at least 10/20 time, so i'm pretty confident its linked to the cavern.
Just before the siege happened i was on the point to just abandon the fort because of that bug, since i was trying to train the dwarf over and over again. But then the siege happened, which made me think its due to the cavern. So for now i training them there, i will try to put a new arena room in a upper level and tell the result.
Steps To ReproduceMaybe try to use the squad screen near a half revealed cavern. Or try to call the squad screen behind closed linked door with a caged goblin inside.

Ok a small update, i made an other "arena" room in an upper level where there is no cavern and the game carshed when using it, so it have nothing to do with the cavern, but rather with the "arena" as it seam. Its a simple room, with a one tile large corridor, few cage traps in that corridor, at each end of the corridor one linked door to levers. In the room i put the cage with the goblin, link it to an outside lever. I order a soldier to go in the room, close the doors, open the cage. When there is enough training, i open one door, the goblin try to leave the room and is trapped again if he is still alive. Such a configuration make my squad screen crash most of the time.

One more update, i replaced the linked doors with floodgates it carshed. Then i just constructed a wall in place of the door and it crashed again. So maybe it have to do with the fact the soldier is in a confined room with no access, i don't know what to do anymore to test further.

Last update i resolved the issue making a "live training" room openned to my barrack which my main entrance go through, but since my dwarfs don't go oustide its pretty safe. The room isn't closed by anything, and i don't even put cage trap anymore, the security of freeing goblins is handled by few axe lords rather than linked doors and traps. That setting is naturally a lot less effective. But the squad screen never ever crahed anymore with that setting.
This seam to make me think the crash is due to confined space, but then again i use briges to close my fort during sieges, and the squad screen never crashed but when using those "arena" type room i described earlier. Also the reproducibility is more like "always" in that case.

It would be helpful if you upload a save that reliably crashes as soon as the squad menu is opened. [^]

OK i uploaded the save files, its in the bugged save section. I named it "Bug report, squad screen crashing game", and i made one more comment for you just so you can easely find the rooms i talk about in the fort ;) I nkow i type too much...

I think this one has been fixed for 0.31.11. It seems like 0000706, but I can't be 100% sure if it doesn't have a bit of something else in it.
