Summary0000532: The fighter skill appears to have a negative affect.
DescriptionWhen tesed in the arena, as detailed in this thread:;topicseen [^]

The fighter skill appears to have either a negative affect or such a small positive affect that even at grandmaster level the results of testing show a negative effect due to randomness.

It could be because the Fighter skill enables a more inefficient combat technique and is therefore unbalanced, or that it is simply broken. Either way it doesnt seem to be working as intended.
Steps To ReproduceArena testing of any identical creatures/groups, with one having the Fighter skill and one not having it, will usually end up with the non-fighters the victor.

Did various tests in the arena with the following configurations:

Group 1 -12 Human, Talented spearman,Grandmaster Fighter,Skilled Shield and Dogde, no armor, shield and spear.
Group 2-12 Human, Talented spearman,no skill in Fighter,Skilled Shield and Dogde, no armor, shield and spear.

I tested five battles, in all of them group Group 1 won with about half of the fighters remaining. I think Fighter now has a positive influence.

The combat system changed in 0.40.01, so maybe it was fixed?
