Summary0005536: When lit on fire by dragon (pterosaur?) breath, artifacts never cease to produce smoke.
DescriptionI was attacked by a titan (pterosaur) in dwarf mode, my military actually made very short work on him. unfortunately he caught the grass on fire which quickly spread into my fortress killing almost everyone (spread to my safety burrow). As the fires died out, my two remaining dwarves began to remove waste and resort stockpiles /bury dead. I noticed there was still smoke being generated near my animal pen and my finished goods stockpile. Upon inspection with 'k' I found that both were being produced by artifacts. One was a bone crossbow that one dwarf died carrying, and the other a coal mug. Enough time passed that my dwarves finished dragging the 20+ dead dwarves, the smoke was still pouring out in waves. I tried to get them to dump them somewhere, but they did not respond, even with all other hauling jobs disabled. I then let them resume normal work and they both died from suffocation in my stockpile at the same time.
Steps To ReproduceBecause of the unexpected Fun at the end there, my map got saved with my settlement being destroyed. The lack a save file to reload, and the relative rarity of the combination of dragonfire + artifacts have prevented me from being able to reproduce this.

Good eye Knight Otu, didn't find anything similar the first time I searched.

I am not sure whatever it is a bug, artifacts are supposed to be indestructible. This property of artifacts made of flammable meterials is widely used.

Can confirm this bug. Any fire will do really, from a FB or careless magma use on the surface does not matter. All I can do with it is wall it off so it produces less smoke everywhere. It also does not show the item as on fire when you view it.

I also used DF hack to dump water on it to try and put our the fire but it just produces steam.

Confirmed again, 34.11 . Dragonfire on a bone artifact table (ouch). Nothing seems to be able to put it out. The table was set as a room; on removing the designation, dwarves cant touch it, presumably due to the constant fire and smoke. Had to abandon the meeting hall/dining hall. Vast quantities of pumped water were insufficient to put it out. I didnt try obsidianizing it.

Reminder sent to: esperandus

A 0.34.11 confirmation doesn't mean much now. Does it still happen in 0.40.08?

I would also like to add, as per 43.03, that Codices/scrolls/parchments are also burning forever with lot of smokes. I had one on the surface that did produce another forest fire.

Although this is not on Mac OS, I had other artifact like he said on an endless fire.

I was able to reproduce a similar scenario on DF 0.44.02 on Windows 10 Home 64 bit. My fort was attacked by a fire-breathing Sauropod. There are four parchment scrolls on two separate single tile that never stop being on fire. There was also an artifact silk coat on top of ice/water that is always on fire smoking.

I will add that I got several notifications that several great works were destroyed by the fire.
