Summary | 0000559: Miners won't mine some squares (at first)
Description | Four hours into a game, all of my miners suddenly started mining only one square, then leaving and going to some totally different place to mine one square. Sometimes they'd be "No job" even though there were still accessible designated squares. A minute or two later they would come back to a site, mine only the immediately accessible squares then leave again. There appeared to be a delay between when a square became accessible and when they thought they could reach it.
Steps To Reproduce | Not sure what triggered this in the first place. To test I cleared all dig designations and laid new ones in a new area both by mouse and keyboard. After an hour it was still occurring everywhere on multiple terrains and levels and variations such as building up/down stairs. It made my game pretty unplayable, and persisted after save/reload. The problem disappeared when I abandoned the fortress and started a new one.

When you say it "persisted after save/reload", do you mean that the general problem persisted, or that the reluctance to mine a specific tile persisted? |

I've tried this happening as well. I think something is wrong with the pathfinding or so. |

I'm pretty sure this is just another example of the stuck dwarf syndrome as describe in 0000235 |

I have the same problem, I don't know if it is stuck dwarf syndrome since there are no job cancellations. I have a save which exhibits it reliably. Saving and reloading stops it, for around 10 minutes, then the dwarfs stop mining again and stand around. There is no cancelled job spam from the mining dwarves. Although i do get the stuck dwarf syndrome from other dwarves eventually every time. Even with no new building or any real activity it happens. The burrow assigning trick seems to reset it for another 10 minutes too. |

I'd suggest following the links back through to 0000018 which is the core thread of all things pathing related. See if you can find some clues that might help you to isolate the specific problem you are having. It is my belief that there are a variety of different things causing problems with pathfinding right now. That's the main problem with pathfinding. It happens very frequently yet ironically it is proving difficult to reliably reproduce so far. If you can manage to isolate and reliably reproduce any buggy pathfinding behavior it would no doubt be very helpful. |

This and other issues are being marked resolved because they fit the symptoms of the general pathing bug described by issues 0000018 and 0000070. If this issue represents an additional bug, it will most likely present different symptoms in 31.03, and a new report should be submitted. |
