Summary0000660: No trade caravan wagons
DescriptionI have constructed a depot, and verified that it is wagon accessible. I built a paved road stretching to the edge of the map, but still have not received any trade caravans with wagons.

The Mountainhome continues to send caravans on foot, but no wagons.

Reproduced consistently here. Including humans.

Couldn't figure out how to attach pictures or anything, but here's some screen caps.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't seen any wagons period, and I've played multiple forts on multiple worlds for multiple years, now.

Well good to know I'm not the only one out there this is happening to.

Was starting to make me rather irate being 3rd season in and still having no anvil. At least it's good to know now, and I can plan around that.

I've had it, though I'd like to note that I still seem to get the same quantity of trade goods imported, I just don't need to leave room for a wagon.

Hmm, as I mentioned earlier, I was well into my 3rd season, and still had no anvil. Which is usually the strategy I used in 40d, leave the anvil, spend the extra points on skills and work on getting a functional society set up, then request an anvil from the mountainhomes in the second season.

The other issue I have with foot caravans is their weight limitations, both incoming and outgoing. It's hard to get a decent supply of flux stone or whatever you need when they're packing it in on foot.

Maybe the dwarven caravans need to take some notes from the elves. They seem to have no problem bringing in 100+ pages or 5000 items by foot if other bug reports are anything to base off.

Ha-Ha. Had a look at the cost of anvils now? Didn't see the sticker 'hint' on the one preset in default embark? *SCNR* ;)

BTW: This has 2 duplicates

It seems that this bug might have a simple cause - almost no creature has the WAGON_PULLER tag. The only one that does is the muskox, which seems to be too rare to be used consistently (or maybe they need to be tamed by a civ leader?). This may also be why at embark, only one horse or similar animal is around - in a test game with horses as wagon pullers, I started with an additional horse, but an unrelated modding mishap caused me to abandon before getting traders and confirm. I'll try again and post results if no one else has.

I saw my first 31.* wagon on year 2 of my 3rd fort from the humans. The next year, they didn't bring wagons again. ><

Unfortunately, the first dwarven caravan didn't come with wagons. Let's see if other traders do.

Edit - Nope, the first human caravan also lacked wagons. Notes for other testers - one, I only went through the first year, and later years may bring wagons after all when it becomes more lucrative to trade with your fortress; two, I only added wagon-puller to horses. The system might need more than one common wagon puller species to consistently spawn wagons.

No wagons here either, but the dwarven liason /can/ be asked for anvils.

I haven't seen any wagons in 0.31, but the pack animals seem to be able to carry more weight than in previous versions, so I can still get caravans with a lot of stuff. Maybe the game isn't sending any wagons because it sees that a few animals suffice to carry all the caravan's goods?

I remembered some comments regarding multi-tile critters, and though that was why they weren't showing up, but as Toady says here: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=62202.msg1426260#msg1426260 [^]

"They're supposed to work."

Has anyone found out a work-around for this?
Is anyone getting wagons at all?

I've had four forts now over a variety of versions and none of them have ever seen a wagon.

With further information, this is a duplicate of 0000197. Please continue discussion there.

Also note Toady's comments:

"...since I'm not sure we'll have wagons/carts until we get around to the big vehicle rewrites now, or maybe even the road stuff as well."
