Summary0009184: Suicidal Bards arrive during siege; Tavern-related
DescriptionBards, Dancers, and even Baroness Consorts have absolutely no qualms with showing up right in the middle of a siege. In fact, they think it's quite lovely to, as long as you have a nice tavern for them to visit. They don't really care if the siege is unbreakable and you're having to turtle - they just waltz right in to join the party. Usually ends with them splattered across a large portion of the map or potentially zombified, if you embarked near a tower.
Steps To ReproduceBuild a tavern.
Wait for a siege.
Additional InformationI'd give it Dwarf Mode - Locations as a category, but sadly, that doesn't exist.

Should also add that as soon as one of the new bards/dancers/singers/musicians are slaughtered, a new one appears in its place. It appears to be trying to hit a cap... and if they can't hit the cap, well - they keep sending more.

Arguably intentional. How should a bard know that your tavern is closed due to siege?

I believe migrants are still prevented from showing up during a siege. If notoriously suicidal dwarfs have enough sense to stay away, then others probably should too. Or let them all come, but give them the ability to run away off map since they are not part of the fortress and some logic about deciding whether to fight with the goblins.

Performers wouldn't know the tavern is closed during a siege, no. The issue isn't that they don't understand it's closed. The issue is that they come in an incessant stream because the game is trying to reach a pop cap. You can literally have hundreds of dead performers at your fortress in a matter of weeks if they die almost as soon as they arrive. For this reason I'm quite certain it's an unintentional bug.

Title, in that case, should be "Hundreds of suicidal bards arrive during siege", for clarification purposes.

Well, when all of them die the moment they arrive, none of them gets out to tell other bards your place should not be visited for a while.

That part makes sense, yes. But in effect, it makes it look like [hundreds] of bards suddenly decided to visit your fortress - which is wholly unrealistic.

I noticed in my game that human visitors arrive, but the goblins leave them alone unless they're armed. Human warriors that show up are fair game, though.

I've also noticed that any visitors inside who can't get out during a siege tend to throw themselves down the stairs.

Scholars also come to visit libraries during sieges.

Hilariously broken with necromancer sieges since every dead bard is added to the horde. I currently have a siege that's doubled in size since three performance troupes were added to the zombie hordes in under a month.

While an occasional visitor arriving with bad timing seems reasonable, a steady stream of suicidal visitors all politely waiting off-screen for their turn to die is comically absurd. Perhaps a cool-down period after a visitor death is in order?

This one is made hilarious with 0008099 and an undead siege (which I assume is because immediately when something living enters the map, i.e. a visitor, undead stop pathing to your fortress). The endless stream keeps coming and they keep going back outside rather than hit your defenses to kill the many visitors coming to be slaughtered.

Free artifacts at least in the aftermath.
