Shot of the 'Sun Tower', better seen here (dfma link)

Shot down the bridge, with the sun tower on the far side.

Opposite side of the bridge...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Shot from the sun tower showing the sister tower (slightly smaller, though) on the opposite side. I've yet to start the object it will contain.

Has anyone else actually been working on new Megaprojects? this thread seems to have suffored a lack of EPIC recently.

I've been working on a fortress, but it's nothing spectacular.  Every time somebody posts something like THAT *points to post above* it's intimidating as hell, because my poor attempts would look pathetic underneath that.

What, seriously?  We think it's awesome when someone posts a giant >:3 carved out of rock.  We love EVERYTHING.

EDIT:  Geez, that sun tower is awesome!

I try and have a couple going at the same time, so when I get burnt out working on one, I can take a break and then come back and work on the other.

Awesome, awesome towers. How much planning went into those, or was it plan-as-you-go?

This is truly awesome- viewing your creations in 3 dimensions is truly satisfying.

Not sure i'd want it applied to DF; one of it's appeals is how simple it looks, how it can convey so much at a glance, an how it can properly allow you to manage multiple levels of a fortress (which would be a little harder in 3d, but still probably doable) while staying so primitive.

It's still awesome - add in workshops and some dwarfs and it will be a must-have add-on!!

yeah, I'd like it if DF stayed pseudo-3d, since it'd be infinitely harder to control otherwise.

Was defiantly definitely NOT plan-as-you-go :P

The towers themselves where pretty quick. Figure out where I want to place them ingame, then work out the circles, and then draw the 'slopes' with a quick click-shift-click line in photoshop.

The sun mural took a lot longer, like 3-4 hours of combined googling to find a suitable sun picture I could use to base it off of and then fitting into the tower I wanted.

Glad you like them :P (They aren't done yet, by the way. I just needed a break from designing/building them, and have been working on other things since while letting my ideas for completing them ferment in the back of my brain.)

You know what'd be awesome? If the sun mural had bauxite walls and had magma on the inside, causing any rain near it to go all teamy, just like rain hitting the sun.

Does the 04f_update work with 40d9 then? I die a little inside when I think I'll never know Chuckednourished in 3D.

It should work with the Windows version of 40d9. Why don't you test it and find out? Also, I should've said it, but you need the full version of of 3Dwarf_04f and you apply the update to the full version (i.e. replace the map_extract.pl file).

Here we see two images of Crossroads's progress on his latest work.  Hopefully I got these at the angles he wanted.
