Start the game.

Left click on "Play" to create your first cave.

First, you have to type in the name of your cave and press enter.

Then you'll have 10 kobolds to control.

The basic idea: Adventurers will be coming to exterminate you because you are lowly. You can turn the tables on them by killing them with bugs.

Menus:
Press escape to get a menu including keybindings and the save/quit option.
Press space to leave open windows or other views.

Customizing:
Go to "data/init/init.txt" to customize your Kobold Quest experience. You can set the window size and audio settings here for example.

Selecting a kobold:
Left click on a kobold to select it. You can also use 'q' and 'e'.

Walk around:
Once you've selected a kobold, 12346789/arrows move you around. Press '.' to wait. If you are ready and want to wait for adventurers, press capital P. Press space to stop waiting.

Critters:
'g' to grab a critter in your square.
'd' to drop your critter.
'i' to look at your critter.
't' to throw your critter:
(*) Left click on an adventurer to select if there's more than one target. You can also use 'q' and 'e'.
(*) A thrown critter will only kill an adventurer 33% of the time, but sometimes it's the only option you have.

Pits:
You can set up pit traps to kill adventurers. There are many open pits scattered around your cave.
'c' to cover up a pit:
(*) The critters that are in a pit square when you cover it are added to the pit and increase its effectiveness. A covered pit normally only has a 33% chance of killing an adventurer, but if you have N critters in the pit, you have an N out of N+1 chance of killing an adventurer.
(*) You cannot uncover a pit once you've covered it.
(*) If an adventurer has seen the open pit, he or she will no longer be fooled.
