0001522: Stray kitten corpse not rotting
One stray kitten became a "stray kitten corpse". One and a half years later it is still "corpse", no rotting, no partial skeleton.
Cause of death is probably the cave-in accident at least one and a half years ago. It got hauled to the refuse stockpiles (inside) and remains there as corpse forever. It had not adopted anyone, other corpses rot as they are supposed to be

Probably related to 0000022 in some fashion.

How young was the kitten? If it was super young, it may have just been a ball of fur (literally!) and fur doesn't rot yet.

Certainly related to the corpses not rotting and decaying issue that was fixed for .04

I believe that's only for butchering purposes, and that an unbutchered corpse retains all its tissue data.

0000161 was mostly about vermin -- I'm not sure Toady saw the part about full-sized creatures failing to rot. Uploading a save would probably be helpful for this bug. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^]

Reminder sent to: matakuka

Using that save, does the corpse rot in 31.08?

All my dead creatures now change from corpse to skeleton in 31.10, so perhaps this is fixed?

I loaded this up in 31.12 and the kitten corpses on level z-5 in the refuse pile still do not rot.

I threw some kittens off a ledge to make a new corpses and they didn't rot either. Rottable stuff made after these rotted in due time, while theses kitten corpses did not rot even after several seasons.

All other corpses (including baby versions) and tissues that are supposed to rot appear to be rotting correctly and are being butchered correctly.

The question remains if a game generated in 31.12 and above still has this problem with kitten corpses?

Still happens.

Embarked with 16 kittens in a fresh 31.12 world and threw them all down a pit.

Let some be put in a refuse stockpile underground, and some more in a refuse stockpile on the surface. I made sure none of them lost pieces in the splat.

Two on the surface rotted and turned to skeletons.

Perhaps related to their size? Maybe the gigantic with incredible muscles were the only two that had enough body mass to rot and produce skeletons properly:

3 enormous yet very weak
2 enormous yet skinny
1 enormous build but is very skinny
2 gigantic
2 gigantic with incredible muscles
1 gigantic and muscular
1 gigantic and quite fat
1 incredibly skinny yet gigantic overall
3 no description

Those were the only two that turned to skeletons. At the beginning of winter, there were still a corpse and a skeleton on the surface, the others having just disappeared (normal for above ground exposure).

The ones underground were still there, unrotten.
