0002132: Flowing water destroys stone if more than one is present in its path
When water flows through a channel, it pushes the first piece of stone it encounters out ahead of it. Should it encounter another piece of stone, or multiple pieces, they are destroyed. Only the first piece of stone the flow encounters survives.
Create a 1-tile wide long channel with multiple pieces of stone in it and allow water to flow in.

Are you sure they aren't just getting clumped up in one tile? You can 'k' over the tiles to make sure.

It's quite likely that they aren't being destroyed but being "hidden" (though not in the sense of the actual item flag) - if you empty out the channel and designate the area for dumping, it's highly likely that your dwarves will run up and pick up stones from nowhere. This same behavior existed back in 40d, and is covered by 0000895.

Strange that flowing water is enough to push stones around - they should be much too heavy for that. Now, smaller items made from stone, such as crafts, should certainly be pushable by flowing liquids.

No, Footkerchief, they are not clumped on one tile. Using k over the tile that shows a stone shows only a single stone left.

Quietust, once I get the area drained out, I will check out your theory.

Edit: tested your theory Quietust, and the dwarves only removed a single stone from the area as far as I could tell.

I stand corrected. Today I caught one of my dwarves collecting invisible rocks from the area, so you are correct Quietust, the stones simply become invisible after being moved by flowing water.
