Summary | 0002417: Secretive Mood Didn't Increase Skill |
Description | My prized legendary Miner, the only Miner in my whole bristling fortress, suddenly got a mood (Withdraws from society.) At first I have a heart attack since years of fishing failed to turn up any shells, which cost me a few lives, but he takes over a Mechanic's shop (He is secondary in Mechanics)...
When he finishes, he made -- uh -- an alunite armor stand? That didn't sound right. Sure enough, he has not gained any skill. Mechanics is still at Proficient.
What happened here? I am 99.999 percent sure he was not possessed, and have a screenshot. What's most baffling is making an armor stand in a mechanic's shop in the first place. Are mechanics even supposed to be able to get moods?

Er, wait, no. He took over a Mason's shop.
...but still got no skill, and doesn't even HAVE masonry, even at dabbling.
Still weird. |

Well, the miner is already legendary, so he is just going to be even MORE legendary. The xp actually still goes up, but the title stops at legendary.
Edit: regarding the masonry, mining doesn't have a workshop, so they use the workshop of the closest related skill, which is masonry, but the mood is for the mining skill.

Yea, james has covered most of it.
1. Moods pick the highest-level moodable skill - in your guy's case - mining. Mining gives you some sort of stone furniture and it takes place in a masonry workshop.
2. Since he was already legendary, the mood only made him even more legendary, which you can't really see in DF (I believe with a utility you can though).
3. Mechanics do get moods. |
