0003831: Start a new fort, dwarves all idle. No work at all.
I have all the tools required (training axes for trees and picks for digging).
I have designated trees to be cut down and areas to be dug out.
Appropriate labors have been enabled on each dwarf.
When I un-pause, there's a few seconds of lag, then the game runs; but the dwarfs are just standing around idling.
Re-designating work does nothing.
Re-enabling work preferences does nothing.
Forbidding and then un-forbidding tools does nothing.
Exiting and reloading does nothing.

The save game can be found on Dwarf Fortress file depot in the bugged saves section under the title "Idle on embark"
Un-zip save file, put in save folder.
Open save game, un-pause.
Save Included

File link: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3587 [^]

No snow or frozen waterways that would account for the rather large delay after unpausing.

Possible underground feature?

Didn't notice any modding - did you fiddle with anything, use a special embark profile, etc.?

I'm noticing you used a save not created with that copy of DF.

What was the previous version?
Were you using a graphical tileset?

Schmolks, what are you talking about? The parameters state: "Created in DF v0.31.18."

There are no mods, I'm using the Gold Plated 16x16 tileset.
Not sure what counts as a special embark profile. I do customize the names of the fort and group. Don't remember what this one was, but my usual is Fort "The Fondled Bodices of Virgins" and Group "The Fellowship of Immorality"

Oddly, the long pause happens every time the game is loaded, even immediately after saving.

I'm guessing part of the problem is that there are so many Z-levels, and that HFS is taking up a disproportionately large percentage of them.

Sorry, I assumed because of: "Un-zip save file, put in save folder.
Open save game, un-pause."

Misunderstood that.

Reminder sent to: AWellTrainedFerret

Does this save still lag in 0.31.25?
(0018391)
Dwarfu
2011-07-31 15:09
Yes it does - I loaded this in 31.25 and the performance is the same - heavy pause, very low fps and no designation work being performed (mining, woodcutting, removing ramps, etc.) - it doesn't generate jobs for these.

No error log entries. All other settings appear to be default.

They will recognize and receive jobs for zones (meeting, pasture), stockpiles (food, weapons), buildings (farm plot and farmer's workshop) and deconstructing the wagon.

This sounds suspiciously similar to http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=2713. [^] I would recommend trying to regenerate the world using the same parameters and seeing if the same world is generated.

If not, it's almost certainly the same bug (and my personal suspicion is that that's hardware related, not software related, although I can't say that with complete certainty).

If it is the same issue, the world will probably continue to bug out on further embarks. So the work around is probably: make a new world.
