0003906: Hunter in Squad Does Not Hunt
My fortress has three hunters. If I leave them out of squads, they hunt. If I assign them to a squad, they don't (even if left off duty). If I remove them from their squad, they hunt again.
1. Get a hunter.
2. Assign it to a squad.
I have not attempted to reproduce it in other forts, but in the fort I have it's successfully repro'd three times.

Possibly related to 0002918.

They probably consider their quivers and bows military equipment, and not hunting equipment, when you assign them to the squad, even when off-duty. I'm pretty sure it's a known bug that military and civilian equipment can't be the same item even when off-duty.

Does this explain your behaviour?

That would explain it. They have enough bows that they could probably pick up another bow, but I guess they're not going to do that since I've specifically assigned them each a steel crossbow.
