0000741: Captive hostile dwarves (including necromancers/undead) cannot be assigned to cages or chains.
Exactly what it said in the summary. An ambush party was led by a hostile dwarf who ran into a cage trap, he can not be moved from said cage and pitted, chained up or moved to another cage. He doesn't show up in any of the relevant lists.

I've captured two more, both new hostile dwarves are the same. The first one was caught during the elven caravans visit, the other two during the human caravans, so they are not dwarven caravan guards caught in traps somehow.
Get an ambush led by a hostile dwarf, capture him in a cage trap.

I can confirm that this happens with your own dwarves as well. A GCS broke into my fortress and started killing dwarves, I sent my military after it, but it immobilized them with its webbing, and then 5 dwarves were caught in my cage traps after being immobilized by webbing.

Caged hostile large creatures require the Animal Training labor enabled to move from one cage to another. I've successfully recaged hostile dwarves in 31.03. Unless someone has a save showing buggy behavior, I suggest closing this.

On the friendly issue, try constructing the cage holding your dwarf, then unselect the creature from the assign menu. That should free them.

I had dwarves with the relevant labours activated, but the captive hostile dwarf did not show up on any of the relevant lists. He could not be assigned to any cage, he could not be released from the cage he was in, cage built and cage set in a stockpile. It's a bug.

Do you have the save, King Doom?

Unfortunately not, I lost that fort to an unkillable FC and deleted it.

I tried to put a note that I have a save, something which was asked for in thus very previous one. I was in the process of posting it on DFFD when it was locked on me, so I couldn't add the note. So I'll add the note here.
The save should be zoomed in on my 'dwarf' stockpile. The rest of the animals are above, and I also have the undead elves caged all in one cage already, to demonstrate that it works for them just fine.

In case the link doesn't work, it is titled 'File Listing: Save File For 0006335'

This should allow you to play around with it. I think you'll find that indeed undead dwarves just can't be worked with: I could swear I've handle animal enabled on someone, because I work with hostiles all the time.
