0007636: Crash on unretiring fortress.
Crash on unretiring fortress.

I had a dwarven adventurer go there and retire at the fortress. Perhaps that's part of it. However, there were a lot of other oddities I noticed while I was there.

- Framerate plummet
- Hundreds of animals everywhere
- both human and dwarven merchants walking around
- wagons apparently stuck without any mounts to pull them
- some places meant to be smoothed have been auto-smoothed
- everything has the ruined XXtagXX if made of wood or cloth
- cabinets appear to have moved diagonally one tile diagonally downwards and to the left (even placing themselves inside doors or other objects)
- everything that has decayed has an un[l]ookable duplicate in the same tile
- Dwarves ran away from my adventurer as if he was terrifying to them, but talked normally while they did so and suffered no obvious terror/horror effects
- Trees grew in odd places (and in large numbers)
- Animals appeared both inside the walls and inside the fortress
- all dwarves were completely immobile, leaving me to wonder what caused all the lag
And a few others.
Try to unretire Romekas in the save provided below. Could not be simpler to reproduce.

To reproduce from scratch?
--> Explore world with an adventurer
--> Fort mode for two years
--> Retire fortress
--> Visit fort with adventurer and retire there
--> Unretire fortress
If that doesn't do it, I'm not sure how to reproduce from scratch.
Fortress is Romekas - Longcaves. Here's the save:

Ignore that save, something's up with dffd and everything I upload there gets corrupted. :\ I'm going to try dropbox instead.

A working zip file.

Edit: Curious - am I going to need to open up a separate report for all the oddities I mentioned above?

I've noticed this happened when some groups entered my retired fort and stuck on its border. If so i can't enter my fort neither by adventurer or unretiring - the game crashes.
I think it is related to worldgen and advmode invasions.

Version is 40.04... I can't believe I forgot to list it. Is that still compatible with 40.09, does anyone know?

Yes, saves from 0.40.03+ should be compatible, but it's also easy to test it.

Yes, I thought of that myself after asking and tested it, and it still crashes. Could you add the version number to the report?

Still crashes, 40.10, so the recent crash fixes don't cover it.

A feature population became corrupted somehow. I've put in a patch that lets the game load and logs an error, but I don't know if that really breathes life into this particular save or just lets it sputter for a bit longer. If no files were copied over other files or the game was never broken out of, then it's some sort of bug, but it's difficult to narrow down the cause.

No, I saved it normally, and no files were copied over other files. The save was originally 40.04, and the fort was a worldgen abandoned fort to begin with... I can't think of anything else that could be a problem, though.
