0008029: Rescued prisoners separated from you while still on the site become hostile yet remain on your companions list
On my way out of a Dark Fortress after freeing the children held prisoner within I became separated from most of them when they froze in terror at seeing me kill their captors; when I went back in to find them they reappeared on my companions list but were now listed as Recruits rather than children, and when I encountered them they were hostile but fled instead of attacking due to their total lack of discipline.

This is probably due to them having their "prisoner" tag removed by being rescued, then when they were offloaded after being left behind the game assumed they were normal members of the goblin civilization.
Rescue children from a goblin site, have them be rooted in place with fear by you killing something, then head far enough away that they disappear from your companions list before returning and checking it again.

I think this happened to me when I cancelled some of the prisioners agreement deals, they soon appeared in the area I left them as recruits.

Update, this also happens if you sleep or wait.

Hm, I haven't had any problems with using sleep or wait to get them to catch up as long as they are still visible on the companions list.

You'd think using sleep or wait would give them time to snap out of it, but nope.

Please upload a save that demonstrates the problem to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^] and post the link here.

Alright, I've uploaded the save where I found the bug at http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9409 [^]

I wandered into the caverns under the fortress while exploring so you'll have to climb back up if you want to see the results personally, but just checking the companions list will show that they've all become recruits and wrestlers instead of children. Also, you may have to find more prisoners somewhere else if you want to test it, I think I freed (and accidentally goblinized) all of them in this particular fortress.

The save is slightly modified as well, but only some creature and material modifications; nothing that should affect group membership like this.

Another update: This also seems to affect non-sentient creatures.
I managed to escape a giant cave spider and slept to recover from my injuries, when I woke up it was gone, and when I returned to the surface a "giant cave spider recruit" was attacking a goblin and is now chasing me.

That might actually be a different bug, the one with the alligator recruit. However, those are out of worldgen.
