0008213: Restrained animals repeatedly try to path to meeting areas, then forced prone
Recently I noticed that the chained war dogs start to flash indefinitely without any notification in their menus (no wounds, etc). After the discussion on the related thread on the forum (http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=143130.0 [^]) it became clear that the reason is the repeatedly crouching and uncrouching without any reason.
No tags attached.

I also uploaded the save files so you can check it out -- https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/90442975/region1.zip [^]

Dogs are chained near the entrance on the Z-0 level.

This is an "odd" behavior that dates back all the way to 40d and earlier - what's happening is that they're attempting to path to a nearby meeting area, and when their chain stops them from doing so, they momentarily go prone.

It's also a considerable source of lag, especially if you have a lot of animals doing it.

Oh, thanks a lot, man. Is there any work-around atm?

The work-around I use is single-tile pastures instead of chains. It works nearly as well and they do not try to path to meeting areas while in the pasture.

Another option is to not have the meeting zone over or close to the location of the chain. At least pastures provide a secondary option.

And yeah, this has been around since forever.
