0008896: Steel armor disappears without trace
When I build steel armor (in this case I built 6 sets of full armor, which includes helms, breastplates, gauntlets, low boots, shields and greaves), and later on I go to form a squad using such armor, I find that the armor seems to have disappeared from the stocks entire except the shields (curiously enough).

I've been able to reproduce this twice, although it's not an immediately reproducible problem. It takes (possibly?) months of in-game time for this to happen.

I'd like to blame thieves, but in-game thieves would have both more and less valuable items to steal from my stockpiles, and the specificity of the missing items (why steal *every* armor type *except* for shields and pretty much everything else?) leads me to believe there's something a little less pedestrian going on.
Build wearable steel armor items. Wait a while. Armor ceases to exist as though it was never built. Shields still seem to be impervious to the bug.

I have no automatic or manual melting jobs going on. I don't have any garbage dumps or quantum stockpiles or other cheaty things going on.
I have a save game available for upload/debugging if necessary. Several, actually, all going back to the world generation.

If you check in your stocks (Z-Stocks) menu, will you be able to find them or do they completely disappear from the game? I personally made hundreds of different metal armors and none of them had ever disappeared (apart from being melted). It's either they have been moved elsewhere or there is a really rare condition to make this happen.

Reminder sent to: surazal

Please check your stockpile settings. Most likely, you have your stockpile set as both accepting armor and refuse, and the refuse setting automatically wears out clothing and armor (0005711). If you find that this doesn't explain the problem, please upload a save (whole region folder) demonstrating the problem to the DFFD ( http://dffd.bay12games.com/index.php [^] ) and post a link to it here.

That sounds about right, actually (I do have an "everything" stockpile which, up until recently, was where all my finished good went into in addition to the bones from my slaughtered animals). I'm not at my computer at the moment but I'll check an older save game to see if the armor is in fact in a state of decay when I get home later.

Thanks!

I just checked my stocks from an earlier save and, sure enough, some of the wearable armor items are in an advanced state of decay. It looks like after a while they disappeared completely from my stocks without a trace that I could find. For now I'll disable refuse from my general stockpile so that my new clothes don't also decay away.

Thanks again!
