Summary | 0011284: Dwarves getting stuck in trees
Description | I don't know how to post to re-open a closed report, or I'd stick it in 0009252 - the original bug report for this issue. Here, in the following save: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=14711 [^] The affected dwarves (there are four!) are stuck in the center of the map, on the second Z-layer up, with [NO JOB] in yellow. One of them is dehydrated and hungry, and another has fallen asleep. I'm preparing to chop down his trees, which I've been loath to do because I wanted to keep them for gathering fruit. I'm not sure how they even got stuck there to begin with. I'd initially assumed it was "plant gathering" (three of them have that skill enabled), but the fourth one only has "Farming (fields)".

If you think you've got the time, building stairs is an alternative to chopping trees down. |

Ah, thank you. That does seem to work. It won't stop new dwarves from getting stuck in other trees, though, I fear. |

The "fix" in 0009252 was a timer that causes stuck dwarves to (eventually) climb down. After loading your save, two of the stuck dwarves proceeded to climb down after a few days (including the dehydrated one). The other two remained stuck, presumably until their timers expired or their conditions worsened. Have any of your stuck dwarves actually perished in a tree since v0.44.01? |

Yes, had one die of dehydration earlier today. "Kalel", one of the dwarves in the save I uploaded. He climbed down, then climbed back up another tree and died. |

This happens to me with fruit gathering zones and stepladders. The stepladder behaviour glitches out, leaving the dwarves stuck in the trees dehydrating. Making the climb-down timer shorter is necessary I feel - and just fixing step ladders in general. Even if they don't die, being dehydrated still causes a bad thought. |

Getting it in the steam version too. Seems to be down primarily to other dwarves stealing the ladders. They do climb down eventually but they're leaving things up the trees. |
