It takes a while. How long have you waited for it?

A good amount of time, how long is average? I waited maybe 10-15 min.

Is the highlighted date on the calendar advancing at all?

No, letho. Should I attempt to generate a new world, or re-install, or generate a world and re-install if that fails?

EDIT- I reinstalled and am generating a world, i'll re-edit this if it fails again.

EDIT 0000002- Reinstalled, generated world, same problem. No idea what to do now.

It should be clarified that this is a hang/block, not a crash. I doubt reinstalling would fix it. Is this a large world?

I got this bug twice, the first was a large world with a medium history, very high civ, very high number of sites, very high number of beasts, very high natural savagery, and everywhere mineral occurance. The second world had the same, except for a very short history

I just generated a large world with 250 years of history. On a pretty powerful machine (overclocked i7) it took me about 20 minutes to advance the calendar. Just to point out, the game window does not update as often as the world gen does, so you probably just need to wait for a long time.

based on what you said, i restarted df in adventure mode for my 1st world, it has been non-responsive for an hour now stuck on the calender screen. nothing has changed.
i will keep it going for a couple hours, or until something changes on the screen and report back

edit- 4 hours later and no change.

Everyone experiencing this problem: does it still happen if you generate smaller (e.g. Pocket) worlds?

I generated a regular world (not a custom, didn't change any settings) and I thought it was stuck until you asked someone previously if the highlighted number had changed and it has! Though very very slowly. I bet this is happening with everyone else, especially with larger worlds. If possible, I would suggest adding a per-day progress bar to this page, something like: ||||||||||||' ' ' ' ' ' ' ' 40%

But definitely keep the screen updated every so often, or the program window becomes non-responsive and seems like it's stuck to player.

I take it that it will be complete when the highlighted date reaches the blue X'd date?

Edit:
Success! It was here for about 30 minutes to an hour while I made dinner:

When the highlighted date finally finished doing whatever it was doing on the highlighted date it went to this menu:

Generating a medium world with 125 years of history and everything on High except for Mineral Occurrence which is very high resulted in the calendar moving, albeit really slowly. It is, however, moving. I believe that the larger the world, the more it'll take to move the calendar forward, and having many sites and civilizations helps with that.

It's strange because I used to generate worlds where everything would be set to max with no issue.

I generated a pocket world with medium everything and a Frequent mineral count. The history was 125. It generated instantly, and the calendar popped up instantly. It clearly is something to do with the civilizations, and size.

This problem gets worse the more historical figures there are.
Smaller worlds have less figs, shorter histories have fewer fig births.
I'd assume that less beasts and less civs would decrease the amount too.

I wouldn't go past a "small" world and "medium" history.

Though I'd like to add that it does seem that every time you die, the wait on the calendar seems to increase a unreasonable amount of time for the amount of figs that might be generated.

A small world with everything on High works fine as well.

Also, travelling and sleeping in adventure mode are MUCH slower now, too.

I've managed to get a save with an actual crash on the calendar screen, not just hanging. Since bug reports involving actual crashes all seem to have been marked as duplicates of this one, I guess I'll link the save here:

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=8812 [^]

The world was (if I remember correctly) small with a medium history. I was having the other known issue with the game crashing while [T]raveling near enemy sites (the bug I was trying to recreate) before it started crashing at the calendar. I can post the crash event log from Windows if it would help.

I am still getting this issue on 40.18, Arch Linux. Large advanced parameters world, lots of civs, lots of historical figures/sites. Got to day 9 or so just fine, now hangs. Been about 15 minutes since it got to 9, and now the screen is no longer updating, but still no actual crash.

Gave it 45 minutes on high end PC, tried again. Same result on day 12-steady 1 second or so delays getting very slightly longer until it hits one and freezes.
