Summary | 0008899: Dwarves never get tired of reporting the same crime over and over...
Description | There is a dwarven partial skeleton in my corpse yard. It has crippled all hauling to that area. Any dwarf that goes near this corpse immediately runs to report a crime. The corpse was originally found drained of blood - an obvious vampire. I was following the suspected vampire at the time, so I saw it happen anyway (already knew they were vampire, was fighting to get a spear trap system ready to use to kill it before it drained its first victim. Wasn't fast enough, a helpless dwarf was taken while I, and many other dwarves, watched). I accused, and dispatched, the vampire, in the year 1052. It is now the year 1056, and the list of reports of people that found the body is reaching a thousand, if it hasn't breached it yet. Dwarves have reported and re-reported the crime every time they have gone by the body for years. Meanwhile, food corpses are left to rot, because anyone that tries to bring them to the corpse pile or from the corpse pile to the butcher are immediately overwhelmed to drop said the edible corpse, and run to the local purveyor of justice to report that they found a partial skeleton drained of blood (how they can tell at this point is beyond me). Again, this has been going on for 5 years now, and the list of reports is an order of magnitude greater than the total number of dwarves to come through the fort, hinting at a lot of re-re-re-re-re-re-re-reporting and more.
Steps To Reproduce | I assume its reproducible... get a corpse by some crime, presumably by blood drain. Don't bury corpse properly - leave it in corpse pile. Watch as every dwarf to run by that pile drops everything to report a crime. Again and again...

I should've mentioned, you can't easily get rid of the offending corpse because it may take tens or hundreds of tries to get dwarves to even move it to a stockpile or to dump it out of the way. Almost every try results in a crime report, to the exclusion of even that job. |

That sucks! Looks like you may need to forbid and seal off that room for now. Have you maybe tried firing and hiring again your sheriff / capt of guard, or accusing someone else? |

Flushing that corpse with water (or lava) may also help with clean up. |

I also had this problem (A vampire sucked one of my dwarves dry of blood, corpse was hauled to corpse stockpile outside, anyone who attempted to bury the corpse got the job cancelled and replaced by "report crime" and then the endless cycle) But I think I found a workaround for this. What I did was: 1. Disable burial labor for everyone except my captain of the guard. (She is the only guard i have.) 2. Disabled all labor except burial on my captain of the guard. She buried the corpse immediately after doing this. Her burial job wasn't cancelled to report crime and no more crime report/s produced, probably because she is the one to be reported to. Hope this helps. |

Just thought I'd post to say this is still occurring in 42.06. I noticed when I started mass-smoothing walls and noticed a single tile accessible only by standing on my quantum refuse-dump failed to be smoothed despite being designated for over a year, and followed my Engraver around to see what the issue was. Once I located the corpse in the dump and built a tomb for it, burial went smoothly with no cancellations due to crime reporting, though. Worth noting that my vampire is a human mercenary who was convicted and beaten, but survived. He's been sealed into a surface bunker with a bow and a few hundred goblinite arrows ever since. |

Same thing is happening to me in 43.05. So there is the dead body of someone murdered by a vampire sitting in the main corridor of my fortress. Every single person who walks by it seems to feel an immediate need to report this to the captain of the guard. Despite the ready availability of the captain of the guard, this seems to go on, and very little else is getting done because of it. This has been going on for months and no one seems to have even moved the corpse to my corpse stockpile for unknown reasons. See the save here http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12789 [^] |
