0004954: creating useless space that is permenately blocked

Description

one winter while a brook was frozen I dugout 4 blocks across the river and build a wall to damn the river. one year later the rest of the river dried up and the other half is now frozen again. so I deconstructed the center 2 blocks to build floodgates. to my surprise the rock formed by the deconstruction of the wall is there but does not exist, I cannot dig that area, nor dig a channel. using the look around button (k) it shows nothing there not even a brook, but it does say that it is inside, light and above ground. if I try to build anything there it says it is blocked.

not an important thing just inconvenient that now there is 2 useless blocks that I don't even think water flows through.
