Summary0000327: Designating hidden areas
DescriptionIt is possible to designate hidden areas that you have not yet revealed, but have found the cavern system it is connected to. However, the designation itself is hidden. Ie, you could mass designate the entire map for plant harvesting or wood cutting, expecting only the revealed plants and trees to be designated within that area, but it will in fact designate everything, the designations being hidden and inactive until the dwarves reveal that area. This could be bad as you dig into an area filled with cave critters, only for your carpenters to rush out into the area to cut down previously designated and hidden trees.

Presumably, this refers only to designating trees and plants for cutting and gathering (since you obviously *have* to be able to designate unrevealed stone for digging).
