Summary0000490: Forbidding/unforbidding bucket results in "cancels Fill Pond: Job item lost or destroyed." spam
DescriptionI set up a pit with a bucket stockpile next to it and set dwarves to fill it from the river. When a dwarf canceled filling the pond
"Monom Urusineth, militia commander cancels Fill Pond: Need empty bucket."
I forbid and unforbid the buckets. This resulted in message spamming by a variety of dwarves

Ihmhi reports on the forum that you can also get the same cancellation spam from dwarves trying to use buckets brought by traders: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=20420.msg1208226#msg1208226 [^]

The same thing happens if you remove the pond designation, perhaps while the dwarves are mid-filling (I can't confirm that last part). My current fort is suffering from periodic bouts:

Tosid ?msibrek, militia captain cancels Fill Pond: Job item lost or destroyed. x12
Ustuth ?nulesdor, Butcher cancels Fill Pond: Job item lost or destroyed.
Zuglar Keskallek, hunting Peasant cancels Fill Pond: Job item lost or destroyed. x4

I also observe massive "<Dwarf> cancels Fill Pond: Job item lost or destroyed." spam when pond zone is set to inactive.

I wonder if this is related to jobs. I noticed back (31.0x?) that after deleting a pond designation, I still had 3 "Fill pond" jobs in the queue. Toady basically said they don't do anything bad, but maybe these jobs are related to this spam?

Erasing the zone that had been set as a pond (rather than simply disabling the designation) seems to resolve the problem.

I am seeing something similar in 31.22. Forbidding the bucket/removing the pond designation does *not* work around it.

I dug a 1x1 channel for a pond, designated as such. Dwarf filled it up twice, then dropped the bucket, picked it up again, walked a few squares and dropped it again, indicating "cancels Fill Pond: Need empty bucket". Inspection of the bucket doesn't show any contents (not sure if it would anyway). I can let it sit and run, dwarfs will pick up the bucket, walk a few squares and then drop it again.

I have a savegame which shows this behavior, if you're interested.

Yes, saves are always useful. http://dffd.wimbli.com/ [^]

Confirmed in v0.40.10; forbidding buckets in use causes incessant cancellation spam, even though multiple other usable buckets exist. Deactivating the zone does not end the barrage, but removing the zone does.
