Summary0005573: When several are available, dwarves don't always choose the closest possible job tile
DescriptionSome jobs can be made from several tiles, like, say building a wall in the middle of an empty field. It can be made from either the north, south, etc. tile. The dwarf often choses the north tile if available, then the west one and so on (but not always) with no regard to logic. In the process, they often end up walled in and starving to death if you don’t watch them closely. Sometime, they will make an insane trip to the other end of the map just to start digging on the other side, even if it may have been done by walking one tile to the nearest side.
It is especially annoying when digging, building walls or floor, but also building pretty much anything, smoothing, engraving, carving fortifications, and felling trees.
Steps To ReproduceOrder a dwarf to dig a wall than can be mined from the south and the north, he will tend to dig the north side, even if he is located one tile away to the south.
Additional InformationThis one has been around from at least version 0.31.25
