Summary0007902: Unreasonable amount of vermin remains in caverns cause severe FPS lag
DescriptionThere are 684 vermin remains in the caves and this is causing me to drop below 50 FPS with only 30 dwarves.
I turned off temperature to make sure the volcano wasn't messing things up, but that changed nothing.

What makes you sure that it's the vermin remains that are causing lag?

I can't see any other reason it would be like this. Things were running smoothly for a good while, but then I noticed it getting slower and slower when seemingly nothing changed.
I can only assume it was the buildup of vermin remains, since I have never seen anything like it. Or maybe an overpopulation of the vermin themselves?
Though there are also some buzzards in the sky that has been idle for quite some time. But I doubt 20 idle buzzards are enough to cause that much FPS lag.
Honestly I can't say for sure, but the vermin are the odd ones out.

On the topic of vermin remain buildup.

I've revealed the second cavern layer, but have nothing down there. There are, however, hundreds of vermin corpses (cave swallows, cap hoppers and the like) littering the entire area. This can't be right - I know it didn't used to do this.

I can't confirm that the framerate is dropping, but I can most definitely confirm the ridiculous amount of vermin remains. Can provide a save if necessary.

I can confirm this for 40.24. My fort is filled to the brink with creepy crawler remains. Vermin populations were never this high in previous versions.

I can't confirm if it's having a huge impact on my FPS however.

Can someone try in one such save file to remove all those remians wih DFhack or other such tool and see if it does help to FPS?
